A Scientific Look at the Magic in Our Own
Backyard!
Join Safari Steve and his friends as they take your kids on a
wild imaginary tour of their backyards, neighborhoods and
community parks. A teacher for more than 18 years, Steve
combines a unique blend of “education and entertainment” to
creatively teach your young readers about the scientific
process. Along the way students also learn interesting facts
about animals, the environment and recycling. Using magic
tricks, drama, puppets, stories, and music Steve makes reading
and learning fun!
"Steve brings
the perfect combination of education and entertainment to his
performances. He got kids excited about books and
science."
-- Kristin Hildum – Librarian, Virginia
Beach, VA
Go Wild! has become a classic favorite. It takes a scientific look at the magic in our own
backyard! Based on the statewide learning objectives
for scientific inquiry, students learn interesting
facts about animals, the environment and recycling.
"…the children
were captivated! What a fun way to learn about science."
--Veronica Grooms – Library Director
Using books from the
Go Wild! Reading List,
Steve introduces students to the scientific method. What we
call the scientific method is actually a problem-solving
method—one that can be used in many different environments.
Once students learn how to use this method, they will have
learned a valuable life skill.
"Your science
theme was right on target. A 5th grade teacher stated
your program and vocabulary list targeted the End of Grade
Science test perfectly. She made a bingo game from the
vocabulary words and used it as a part her science lesson."
--Millie Hughes – Media Specialist,
Stoneville, NC
Go Wild! is endorsed by the National Science Center in
Augusta, Georgia. The program also supports standards set by the National Science
Teachers Association (NSTA); the National Council of Teachers
of Mathematics (NCTM); the Standards for English/Reading
Language Arts, and the International Reading Association
(IRA).

Throughout the 45-minute presentation Steve identifies
and defines important words and concepts from the
Go Wild! Vocabulary List.
The words are presented in context and then defined, which
helps in creating a meaningful reason for the children to
assimilate the information. Teachers may find it useful to
include some of these words as bonus vocabulary words,
spelling words or simply weave them into other lesson plans.
"Go Wild makes
learning fun. The students recall vocabulary words from the
presentation for weeks following."
--Sue Erisley; Morris Elementary
In particular, the Go Wild! program allows students to
experience various steps in the Scientific Method in the
context of storytelling and drama. They will interact with
Steve and be challenged to:
In addition to learning about the scientific process, students
learn about the importance of recycling and how they
can begin three simple steps to take ownership of their
environment.
"Steve is a
master at keeping kids attention and getting them actively
involved in his presentation. He is able to relate to
very young children in an age appropriate way yet alter his
delivery for older students."
--Sara Haskins – Librarian, Roanoke, VA
