Family Fun Night is around the corner. It feels like summer has just begun and you know what that means… School will be starting back soon.
It’s an unchangeable fact of nature like the tide, the setting sun and the missing sock. Soon that first Fall breeze will blow through the air and the summer life as we know it will begin to change…Summer is fun but it tends to disperse people as the habit of going to school is put on the back burner.
So what’s the solution?
May I suggest the “Family Fun Night Back to School Event“?
A night of laughter, fun, comradery and encouragement.
Family Nights can be wildly successful! I have some time-tested strategies, ideas and tips on how to make this happen at your location.

Does Drew Barrymore have a twin sister? I had the wonderful opportunity to kick off the Summer Reading Program at Chilhowie Public Library. Hopper and I presented the NEW Set Sail show. We had a great turn out and a terrific audience. Heather Carter was an amazing host and may also be the secret twin sister to Drew Barrymore.

Well, I’m red in the face. After a recent performance of the Set Sail reading show a grandmother stopped by with her grand kids to meet Hopper the Magic Rabbit! Her words made me blush! She said, “That was a fabulous show! The best I have seen in a long time!” It is always humbling but also wonderful to get positive unsolicited feedback! And yes, it can make me turn library red! You know, everything in the library should be “read” – especially the books. :)

I launched my NEW Set Sail reading show in May. I was so happy to make a return visit to one of my favorite schools: Rocky River Elementary in Mooresville, NC. We always have a great time together, but I didn’t see this coming! One of the teachers shared this comment about her Pre-K son Evan:
Evan just informed me that the magic boy named Pirate Steve came to school today and showed him some cool magic tricks and new books about treasure. I’m so glad that he got to see the show! He LOVED it!
Who knew? Magic Boy? Pirate Steve? I think I like it! :)

My wife left me today? Actually, it is NOT what you are thinking. Mary, my wife, left for Georgia to visit and assist with care of her 92-year old mother. I remained here to perform six Summer Reading shows in North Carolina.
We love our moms! This past spring, I visited Breckenridge Elementary School in Fincastle, VA . It was their first live assembly in two years (due to COVID). We celebrated with Marcy Wohlford (librarian) and the fantastic students and staff during Read Across America week! I presented the Salute to Seuss magic show! I was so pleased to have my 92-year old mother spend the day with me. She is my biggest fan! Over the years she has made most of the table drapes, curtains and cloth magic props that appear in my shows. Thanks Mom!
